I ended up just stopping it and opening the lid. The wings were done and delicious , I guess my question is how do I know, after i push the selected button, that my food is done cooking?

We have followed the recipes to the letter and time noted, for pressure cooking, but on items that have sauces such as stronganoff and marinara sauce the sauces are reduced to water thin liquid which has no flavor.
What might we be doing wrong or are all those type of items supposed to cool and if so why is that procedure not mentioned in the cook book? Hi Cherrelyn — which recipes are you following? I have had a couple of issues in the beginning not having enough liquid but generally atleast 1cup usually is enough even though it looks practically empty still.
So the sauce could end up almost too runny for my taste. This is such a simple single-pot meal for very busy evenings, you can even use frozen store bought meatballs right into the pot! My CrockPot is not quite a year old. Now what do I do? Hi Cathy — did the float valve drop. Sometimes it can get stuck even if the pressure is released. Do you have a chopstick that you can try pushing down on the float valve to see if you can get it to drop?
This website has been very useful. The information here should be in the instructions with the appliance. It has taken me a long time researching before finding this. Now I better understand the Crockpot Express.

Have fun pressure cooking! I have recipe to cook macaroni for 4 minutes. Which one should I use? Is 6 minutes under rice ok? You can let the pressure release naturally until the float pin drops and the lid can be easily opened, or you can quick release and release the remaining pressure. It presets at 15 minutes and will not go lower. Most of my recipes call for minutes not 15 minutes. Any idea how to get around this?
Thanks Chloe. For example, the steam button has the shortest cook time — 3 minutes. See the section above on the preset times in the Which Button To Use section. Can you use aluminum foil in the Crockpot Express Instant Pot?

Do you know if cold start yogurt works well in this? Is there a stainless steel insert that is compatible w the crockpot pressure cooker?
Not excited about the nonstick coating. Hi, I recently purchased a Crockpot Pressure Cooker. Hi Carmen — when the pressure cooker is coming to pressure, steam builds up and pushes up the float valve.
The float valve is inside the hole in the handle of the lid. Whenever I use the slow cooker setting on high the food only gets slightly warm and never cooks. Each time I use it the odor gets worse. My whole kitchen, which is small, has an unpleasant odor from the crock pot.
Any suggestions? Hi John — unfortunately, the silicone gasket does absorb odors. I usually store the lid upside down on top of the pressure cooker to air out and after a week or so, that helps somewhat. I wrote the manufacturer and they responded that they do not have a Spanish version of the manual. I am trying to cook a chicken recipe that calls for 8 minutes cook time. This crazy thing wont let me go less than What setting should I use instead of chicken?
Hi Ellen — you have to use a setting with less time. Look at the pre-set times above. Soup lets you adjust down to 5 minutes. Thanks for your review.. Whenever I put it on that to brown the hamburger or something prior to pressure, after a minute it beeps and a number comes up.
It sounds like you may have a faulty unit. Any one use it for this purpose? Hi Carri — no, currently there are no electric pressure cookers that have been approved for canning, except hot water canning. How can this problem be fixed? This is my first experience with pressure cookers, I never owned one before.
Remove it from the lid and reinstall it. Hi Barbara — It worked! The water test went well and I now understand how the crock pot express works. Thank you for your help! If the rubber gasket is in place inside the lid then there should be no steam escaping from the lid, only from the valve at the top until the valve closes itself. Hi Shirley — I have a series of posts that help you get started.
Hi, I also am having issues with it not coming out of heat mode. The first time I was making soup and had a lot liquid. When I stopped the process because it was taking a very long time there was no liquid left. The second time I made the same soup I stopped it on my own before it ran out of liquid. At what point is the heat mode supposed to turn off? Are you seeing steam around the edges of the lid? You may have already answered this but most of the recipes I have tried call for the use of manual setting.
I just received this as a gift. I want to cook a 3lb frozen pork roast- boneless. How do I cook it in the crock pot pressure cooker?
Hi Lisa — what type of pork roast is it? Can you help me please, and thank you. Hi Barbara — what error code is flashing? Is there a special way to clean this thing? Yesterday afternoon I made curried chicken in the pot. Last night I made oatmeal with fruit and sugar.
My oatmeal came out tasting like curry! Isnt usually a problem since I cook savory dishes in it most times. But sweet curried oatmeal is not pleasant! So any suggestions? Baking soda? I store the lid upside down so the gasket airs out when not in use and that helps.
I dropped the lid of the pot causing the pressure valve to pop off, so now it falls off all the time…however, when I put it back in, it seems to work just fine while cooking.
Also, have you or anyone had significant issues with scratching of the pan? When it goes in the sink to soak, it seems to become the catch all of anything that will fit, especially silverware! Can you recommend a good place to get a new one? Hi Hillary — the steam release valve does fit on loosely. I am cooking a pot roast with potatoes and carrots. I have seared the meat added broth and put in the vegetables. It has heated and now shows time of 35min.
Hi Sandra — you would have to cancel the cycle to add the extra time. Everything I have tried has turned out beautifully. The only question I have —- Is the steam setting high pressure?
For instance I cooked teriyaki chicken wings and the poultry setting only adjusts down to 15 minutes. What I did was I turned the pot off after 10 minutes. But could I use the steam setting at 10 minutes to pressure cook the chicken wings instead? Nowhere that I can find tells me if it is high or low pressure when using steam setting. Hi Marnie — the manuals says the default setting for Steam is high pressure, so you can use the steam setting for 10 minutes for your chicken.
What is the Bobber Valve for and why does it release steam before it starts cooking? The steam pushes the float valve closed and seals the lid shut. Try using the Soup, Beans or Steam settings. I did have a slight issue after sauteing and then setting pressure but figured it out. Both worked out well! Hi Cheri — recipe times are based on starting with cold water, so if you start with hot or warm water, you may need to increase the cook time.
Have heard so much about these electric cookers from the younger generation in my family that I decided to buy one. Not impressed, might have to return it. Hi Krause — many are new to pressure cooking, but even those who have used a pressure cooker before do love the electric pressure cookers because they are set it and forget it easy.
The electrics automatically switch to the Keep Warm setting after the cook time is up. Hi Lorrie — it slides onto the back just underneath the lid. All the videos just jabber away and no info about locking the lid. Where can I get a manual? PDF On the front of the pressure cooker there is an unlock symbol. Line up the arrow on the lid with the unlock symbol and twist it to the locked symbol. Hi Sonja — sorry! It does happen and most of the time it works again once it has time to dry out.
You may be able to unscrew the bottom I know others have on the Instant Pot and that will help it dry out faster. So do you add the water in the pot that you put the food in?
Hi Ryan — usually add just enough liquid to the inner pot along with the food to come to pressure. The very first time out of the box I washed, dried completely and cooked boneless, skinless chicken breast. I make my own with chicken powder because it just tastes better and gives great flavor. I pressed the poultry button, pressed pressure to high and pressed the start button which shows the word HEAT on screen.
It takes about minutes to preheat and then the minutes will pop up and it starts cooking. When it stops it automatically switches over to warm setting or you can put it on the warm setting. The pressure valve MUST be set to on, the gasket inside must be dry and fit into the lid snugly. It is normal for it to let out some steam at times. It is very quiet and does not make the jiggling noise other pressure cookers make. Crock Pot brand is a great tried and true cooker and always has been, which is why I bought it.
I do not need to pay more to have a good cooker. If anyone is not getting theirs to work they must be missing a step and doing something wrong more than likely, not all the time. I also did a quick release on pressure and it was perfect, just make sure you use a long utensil to push the lever over and give it a few minutes before you try and open lid.
Slowly open and use towel or oven mitt to be safe. Keep your face away from the lid. Safety first. I just bought a crockpot express and wondered what the low and high pressure functions did? I made a chicken curry with chicken breast and it was a bit too tender, almost dry , I wondered if I set it to low pressure or reduced the time it would have been better? Do you have any idea? Hi Lauren — yes, if you felt the chicken breast was overcooked you can use low pressure, but I would probably reduce the cook time instead.
Also, try boneless, skinless chicken thighs. I have two multi cookers, different sizes, with both, the rubber gasket smells really bad. The only way I can get it to stop is to put it in the dishwasher.
Is this something you were aware of? Happens in all the electric pressure cookers. I store the lid upside down on top of the pressure cooker and it airs out after a while.
My crockpot expressmulticooker , never lest the heat mode , I followed the directions, first time Inused it! Having a problem with my Crockpot express multicooker , I followed directions and it never went out of heat mode?
First time I used it! I just used my express crockpot multicooker for first time. Followed the instructions never got out of the heat mode? Tried again then it went to E 6 never to time mode. My food was over cooked. What were you cooking? I can open tye top immediately. Have you tried doing the water test with just a cup of water in the pot? Have only had it a week and used 3 different functions so far but I love it. I heard the added a pressure cook button on the 8 quart. Is yours an 8 quart?
You should stop telling people it doesnt have a manual mode. Hi Lori — after browning you deglaze the pot to get all of the little bits of browning off the bottom of the pot. Because it leaked so bad it never stopped heating and the timer never started working. After 40 minutes of waiting for the timer to start I shut it off and opened it. Good thing I shut it down because my roast and vegetables were done. I will be returning it because I believe this one is defective.
I was not impressed. Maybe the next one will function properly? Hi Rex — sorry you had problems. That is frustrating.
Did you try adjust the silicone gasket to see if it was seated properly? How do you get the temp down to a simmer? Hi Cheryl — the easiest way to quickly lower the temperature in the pot is to lift the inner pot up away from the heating element on the bottom. Similar to remove a pan from a burner on the stove.
You can also just turn off the pressure cooker to reduce the temperature. Hope you enjoyed the meal. Hi Jim — the Crockpot Express does not maintain pressure at 15 psi. I just bought mine and am trying to figure out if I like it or not. I am confused about determining cook times. For example, the manual says minutes for sweet potatoes. Does that include the heat up time? That was 7 minutes after the heat up time. My pork chops turned out a little dry and apparently I have to saute any meat that I want to cook before I select any other option.
I feel like every meal is a science experience and do not ever want to waste any food. With my crockpot, I could just dump in whatever I wanted and not think twice about it. The only thing I really like about this so far is that I can have dinner prepared a little faster. Are there any cookbooks out there for the crockpot Express cooker? Hi Dena — there is a little bit of a learning curve for pressure cooking, but once you get the hang of it, most people really love it.
Lean meats are more difficult to get the timing just right, than meats with more marbling like pork shoulder. When using the slow cook feature, does the cooker heat from the sides and bottom or just the bottom? I have not yet purchased one.
Hi Liz — yes, you can cook meat and vegetables that are frozen. The Instant Pot has a manual mode that is referenced in many recipes on the web, what is the equivalent for the Crockpot Express? You have to use one of the pre-programmed buttons and adjust the time.
Just use the pressure cooking button with the closet cook time. Hi Rie — yes the cook time will be the same for 3 cups of rice and for 1 cup of white rice. I need to use this for canning. How would I use the settings?
For example: I need to cook at 10 psi for 15 minutes. Hi David — the Crockpot will cycle on an off to maintain pressure. How do you know how long your cooking?? Control panel is only going up to is that hours or minutes?? Manual is really no help??? Just use one of the pressure cooking functions. What are you trying to cook? I received my Crock pot Express for Mothers day from my daughter.
So far, I love it! I have made veggie beef soup, the traditional stew, beef and broccoli, rice pudding, banana bread with chocolate chips, and steamed corn on the cob and hard boiled eggs. Everything came out great. I carefully followed the directions and had no problems. I am 81 years old. It has a permanent space on my kitchen counter. Does the cooking time for pressure cooking start when it starts making the noise or right when you press start? My recipe called for pressure cooking at 8 minutes then natural release for I hit start and set the pressure at 8.
Will it tell me when the 8 minutes is up? Now my cooker just says heat and then went back to a timer. Trying to understand it. So it has to build the pressure before the timer starts? Hi Natalie — the pressure cooker has to reach full pressure before the cook time will start counting down.
So a big pot of soup using cold ingredients could take 20 minutes to come to pressure before the time will start counting down.
I hate the valve because it spews hot liquid. I am not able to control temperature and this unit has burnt my food. Hi Dawn — if liquid is coming out of the valve, you need to close the valve and waiting a minute or two and then try again. What recipes have you tried? I got an E6 error code not enough liquid even though I have plenty of liquid in the cooker.
I let it cool down and restarted. Still says E6. What else could be wrong? It appears from all the negative reviews on Amazon that scores of people have this problem.
I just want to know what the answer is to make it right. I have had an e6 also I unplugged it and retried it. And mine also steams liquid out when I release it. I have done frozen meat, 20 minutes done, dry kidney beans, soak beans for a few hours, normal time about 4,6,8 hours over night ok or watch them while they swell up, Cover the beans with liquid water , cook them for about: small batch 20 min largest batch up to the fill line of beans and liquid, 40 mins, note: cook beans first with the liquids, water, then recook beans with spices Done soup, stuff from the freezer, dumped it in the pot,put a soup base in,like cream of mushroom, add some water to it,cover it up,push the soup button.
Just put in what the recipe says and stir it until the recipe says to stop. Hi Ross — if your roast was tough, it needed a longer cook time. If your roast was dry, it needed a shorter cook time or a roast that had a little more marbling like chuck roast. Ross I have great success with cooking either pot roast or stews. What I do is I slow cook for 3 hours then I pressure cook for 35 minutes.
The meat is so tender you can cut it with a fork. The last pot roast i cooked was a brisket which is a very tough cut of meat and it was fabulous after pressure cooking. I was wondering how long i should pressure cook frozen pork sizzlers? I love my cooker and just used it to make chicken noodle soup. I have tried my tried and true crockpot recipes in the Crockpot Express, but the meat keeps turning into hard lumps floating in the middle of my meal.
For example chicken and dumplings. Anyone have this problem, or know what it might be? I really like this cooker, but i was hoping to have only one bulky item on my counter….
Lean meats such as chicken breasts are harder to get right at first, so try using chicken thighs, pork shoulder or chuck roast and less liquid. Hi Rachel — the Steam Release Valve is loose and that is normal. I would practice with water in the pot and give it more time to seal itself. I am having a hard time finding a chart to know how much fluid to put in. I feel stupid but there is no section that says for 1kb of beef use x amount of liquid. Hi I tried a Mac and chees and it said to cook a whole pound of penne pasta in 4 cups of water for 4 minutes but I was not sure which of the settings to put it on.
I think I finally chose beans and chili but it did not go down to 4 minutes. Also if you r timing it do you start counting after the initial heat setting goes off and the time appears? It was just a little confusing but it turned out good with a little tweaking! Sounds like you did it just right. Why does mine take 20 minutes to get to pressure? However, for most dishes like my beef and broccoli, it should only take about 5 minutes. Any tips or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
Hi Bernadette — you just pull the silicone ring out to clean it and then press it back into place, walking it around to push it back into place.
I always clean it in soapy water. I just store the lid upside down on the pot and let it air out and eventually the odor goes away. Unplug Multi-Cooker and allow to cool. Once it is cooled down, remove the Lid and check the Cooking Pot. Add liquid as necessary. Ensure a minimum of 8oz of liquid is used inside the removable Cooking Pot.
What were you cooking in the pot? Did you have the Steam Release Valve in the closed position? Is your gasket seated properly? Hi Darren — I cook a 4 lb.
Hi Carol — depending on how large the chicken is the time will change, but the whole chicken recipe in my cookbook uses a 4 lb. Have you tried to make yogurt in this machine yet? Mostly liquid. Hi Erryn — no, you just want to cook it for 7 minutes, so I would use the beans button and reduce your time to 7 minutes. My crockpot express exploded on my daughter.
Absolutely love this item. Wondering however, what is the best way to cook piece or pieces of frozen fish? What do you set yours on for beef broth? Making homemade beef broth and I have no idea what setting to use.
Hi Amanda — just use the setting with a long cook time. Soup adjusted to 1 to 2 hours would work great. Hi, what setting do you use to cook pasta? Would it be the same for spaghetti vs. You can cook pasta on any of the high pressure cooker settings, meat for example. If you are cooking stuffed shells with cheese in the shells, you will want to cook it pot in pot like lasagna.
Thanks for this review. Do you have a good recipe for a whole chicken? Thank you for all of the posts. They were very helpful. I would like to make chicken breast and rice in my pressure cooker. Can I cook them both at the same time? Honestly, I think they are just trying to cover themselves from any possible sort of legal ramifications. Congratulations on your win! Do you think this will effect the cooking time? Have you had any experience cooking smaller quantities in your machine?
Just make sure that if you are halving a recipe, you still have enough thin liquids. Hope that makes sense! Thank You for this site! I bought my Crockpot Express Mini-Multi Cooker before Christmas and have used it less than four time; finding it to be a little intimidating.
I felt the same way when I first started out, and there was nothing really helpful online about the Crockpot Express. Your email address will not be published. The contents of this blog, including text, original photos and ideas are the sole property of the author.
